I think my 2nd option was the Minix U1 NEO but prefer the look of this one. I don't password my own network but understand some people do.As you say, there is a work-around shown on the Futeko forum.Check the Kodi forum for more details on the Minix.I did consider (for a short time) but it did not meet my list of requirements for 3D and uses the AMLogic S905 chip.I love the look of this device, and the fact it ticks a lot of boxes.(Upgrading from an old asrock ion3d which is 1080p only and on its last legs).
Perfect for playback of music or getting Kodi to do a library update etc. However, there is an English retailer who provides excellent forum support for the product and goes back to Hi Media to get things fixed: board=14.0• Review with specs (but with original firmware was used for tests): In summary, it has ticked all my requirements for a high quality (not cheap) replacement media player without going the full HTPC route. The SMP is showing its age (even though WD finally got around to issuing a decent firmware update a few weeks ago, after we had all given up).Playback PQ of mkv and mp4 from Blu-ray and audio pass-through (bitstream 7.1) to my AVR have been very good so this was a baseline that still excludes a lot of current cheaper media player options. Unfortunately, there was little here on Whirlpool (hence this new thread).
